First Cut! FILM GALA EVENT 2013 for County Cork young filmmakers with special guest

Maeve Higgins, comedian and writer, from Cobh, County Cork is an annual “must do” event for creative young film makers.

Young filmmakers were delighted once again to be joined in celebrating their talent with some well-known celebrities from the entertainment world. Maeve Higgins, a principal actor/writer of the RTÉ production Naked Camera, as well for her own show Maeve Higgins' Fancy Vittles,  was totally entertaining and captured her audience as she encouraged them to network, ‘to be nice to everyone’ and to follow their dreams. Maeve’s’ first play Moving City ran at Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin up to last Friday as part of the Fringe Festival and audiences loved every moment.

In all 26 short films were premiered, all made by young people from throughout the Cork Harbour area, awards & certificates were presented and some films were selected for screening at Irelands only Pop- Up Youth Film Festival due to take place in Youghal in February 2014.

This is a vibrant annual film festival which sets out to support the next generation of local, national and even international filmmakers by showcasing newly created short films. Young filmmakers will have opportunities at the Youghal Festival to learn from and engage with professional filmmakers through panel discussions, Q&A sessions and hands -on workshops. An Open Call for entries was announced at the Gala. First Cut! Festival is a not for profit organisation& will not charge for submissions or screenings.
