Big brother big sister is a Foroige led scheme that has run in our school for the past number of years. Each year a Transition Year class is paired with a First Year class in an effort to ease the transition from Primary to Secondary School. Each student undertakes an interview where they point out their interests and hobbies in an effort for us to pair the first year students with their Big Brother/ Big Sister.

Over the course of the year activities, educational lectures and outings are planned to suit the student cohort with the intention of strengthening links between the pairings and to create an atmosphere where team work and skills are modelled and learnt. Students are given opportunities to ask questions, lead discussions, get involved in the various activities such as a Games challenge, Quizzes and Arts and Crafts. Talks on Mental Health to link in with the Darkness into Light initiative, the negative impacts of vaping and responsible actions were very enlightening for the students and again tie in closely with topics on the students S.P.H.E. Courses.

The big benefit of BBBS is that both the 1st and 4th Year student learn from each other and foster strong relationships that can only benefit our school and the wider community.
