GCC Junior Certificate Results 2024

We would like to congratulate all our students on their achievements in the 2024 Junior Certificate. The results mark a significant milestone in these students’ educational journey through GCC. We would like to acknowledge all their hard work, dedication, and commitment. We also want to acknowledge the invaluable role played by our teachers, SNA’s and support staff. Students rely on their  guidance, knowledge and constant support over the 3-year programme. We also recognize the crucial support and encouragement provided by parents and guardians. We look forward to supporting these students in Senior Cycle and ensuring they continue to achieve to their maximum at an individual level.

The Junior Cycle class of 2024 assembled in the Social area at 3pm to receive their Junior Cycle results.  All students assembled in their junior cycle class groups and the results envelopes were handed out after the group were addressed by Mr. McCarthy.  In his address Mr. McCarthy thanked the students for their dedication to their studies and their hard work in once again achieving such good results for GCC.  He also thanked teachers and parents for the support offered to students.

For those interested in appealing a subject descriptor from the Junior Certificate results, please see below the information from the SEC.

  • Applications will only be accepted from the school to the SEC.
  • Each subject review carries a fee of €32, payable to the school.

GCC Lord Mayor’s Annual Visit

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Lord Mayor of Cork Councillor Dan Boyle to GCC yesterday. The Lord Mayor was entertained by our GCC musicians, student group Rhubarb and singer Michael O’Callaghan under the direction of Ann Mannix. Councillor Dan Boyle then addressed our 1st Year students and gave them the opportunity to ask questions. Riain Leahy and Owen Williams presented the Lord Mayor with a bespoke wood piece created by students showcasing our state-of-the-art laser cutter under the supervision of Kevin Crowley. Riain and Owen had the honour of meeting Councillor Dan Boyle at a reception held in the City Hall before they departed for Shanghai in July for the International Sister Cities Youth camp in conjunction with Cork ETB and the Cork City Council. The morning concluded with the Lord Mayor taking to our grand piano and treating the community to a wonderful rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine.

Disability Access Route to Education (DARE )scheme

UCC DARE Information Slots

Dear students & parents, the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE )scheme is a third-level alternative admissions scheme for school leavers whose disabilities have had a negative impact on their second-level education. GCC CBA Assessment Calendar for 2024/2025

Please take note of the GCC CBA Assessment calendar for 2024/2025 displayed in the picture below:

GCC School Car Park

We would like to thank parents for their continued cooperation with our entry/exit system to the school car park. A reminder that:

  • From 8.30am to 9.10am Monday to Friday the school car park is entry only. The exit lane from the car park will be closed at these times.
  • From 3.30pm to 4.10pm Monday to Thursday and 12.30pm to 1.10 pm on Friday the school car park will be exit only. The entry lane to the school car park will be closed at these times.

We would be grateful if parents could remind students:

  • to use the pedestrian footpaths and not walk along or between cars when entering/leaving the school
  • use the pedestrian gates only and not enter or leave the school via the main gate

We kindly ask parents who are collecting their children from our school not to park their vehicles in appropriately. For example, we ask parents not to park up on footpaths. We are aware of some cars taking up the whole footpath, leaving no space for either our students or members of the public to walk freely by and limiting the access of wheel chair users.

We also ask parents and students to be respectful of the housing estates near the school around drop off & collection times. Cars queuing in school traffic on the Hazelwood Road are blocking the entrances to Old Avenue & Oakfield housing estates. Please leave a gap for residence trying to leave their estates.

We thank you for cooperation in ensuring added safety for our students when accessing the school grounds.
