Dear Parents and Students,

Our online application process for September 2025 will close at midnight next Tuesday 22 October. It is important to note that if you have a child who is currently attending GCC or has attended GCC in the past, parents must still complete an application form for your 6th class child who is looking for a place in GCC for next September. Applications can only be made via the school website.

State Exams Commission [SEC] – Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP)
The Candidate Self Service Portal (CSSP) is open for candidates [6th Year students] to register and activate their account and confirm their subject entries and levels. It will remain open for this purpose until 5pm Friday 25 October 2024. Candidates will be given a further opportunity to amend subjects/levels in February 2025.
We have been asked to advise all candidates in our school that it is essential that they register through the Portal as this Portal will provide candidates with the opportunity to confirm their subject choice and levels, to also allow future access to their results and for the later stages of the process such as the appeals application process.

We currently have 372 active student users who have taken up the Studyclix paid subscription. All of these students have been logging in regularly and clocking up web sessions over the past month.
Please see below a breakdown by year group:

With the October Assessments now complete, it may be beneficial to include Studyclix as part of student improvement, particularly for those who have not yet signed up. Studyclix can support students in enhancing their study practices and improve their understanding of key topics.

GCC 1st Year Parents Feedback Survey
On Monday 7 October GCC held its traditional information briefing for parents of 1st Year students who started with us in September. Please click on the link below to view the presentations on the evening:
1st Year Parents Information Briefing 7 October 2024 – Glanmire Community College (glanmirecc.ie)
Following our information briefing we surveyed 1st Year parents asking the following questions:
- Please rate how you feel your child has settled into school since starting in G.C.C.
- In your opinion, What has been the most positive aspect of your child’s experiences in G.C.C. to date?
- In your opinion, what is the one area you feel G.C.C. should focus on for further improvement?
- How satisfied have you been with the communication to and from the school?
Just over one third of parents replied. Parents are asked to note that the feedback information has been shared with staff without editing apart from information that might identify a teacher or student individually. It is worth highlighting that the average score for how students have settled into GCC was 8.79/10 and the average score for communication to and from the school was 8.96/10. There are numerous positive comments about how students have been supported and their positive learning experiences and there are a number of concerns highlighted which we will try to address within the structures and resources we have.

GCC School Car Park
We would like to thank parents for their continued cooperation with our entry/exit system to the school car park. A reminder that:
- From 8.30am to 9.10am Monday to Friday the school car park is entry only. The exit lane from the car park will be closed at these times.
- From 3.30pm to 4.10pm Monday to Thursday and 12.30pm to 1.10 pm on Friday the school car park will be exit only. The entry lane to the school car park will be closed at these times.
We would be grateful if parents could remind students:
- to use the pedestrian footpaths and not walk along or between cars when entering/leaving the school
- use the pedestrian gates only and not enter or leave the school via the main gate
We kindly ask parents who are collecting their children from our school not to park their vehicles in appropriately. For example, we ask parents not to park up on footpaths. We are aware of some cars taking up the whole footpath, leaving no space for either our students or members of the public to walk freely by and limiting the access of wheel chair users.
We also ask parents and students to be respectful of the housing estates near the school around drop off & collection times. Cars queuing in school traffic on the Hazelwood Road are blocking the entrances to Old Avenue & Oakfield housing estates. Please leave a gap for residence trying to leave their estates.
We thank you for cooperation in ensuring added safety for our students when accessing the school grounds.
