Dear GCC Parents/Guardians & Students,
Storm Babet
We would like to thank all in our school community for their patience and support during this very difficult and challenging week. In particular we would like to acknowledge the many families in our school who have been impacted so severely by the flooding. We are grateful to parents, staff and students in ensuring everyone left the school on Wednesday afternoon safely and we ask that everyone, and students in particular, take no unnecessary risks travelling to and from school.
GCC students receive their Junior Cycle Results
We would like to congratulate all our students on their achievements in the 2023 Junior Certificate. The results mark a significant milestone in these students’ educational journey through GCC. We would like to acknowledge all their hard work, dedication, and commitment. We also want to acknowledge the invaluable role played by our teachers, SNA’s and support staff. Students rely on their guidance, knowledge and constant support over the 3-year programme. We also recognize the crucial support and encouragement provided by parents and guardians. We look forward to supporting these students in Senior Cycle and ensuring they continue to achieve to their maximum at an
individual level.
Despite the adverse weather conditions on Wednesday afternoon the Junior Cycle class of 2023 assembled in the Social area at 3pm to receive their Junior Cycle results. All students assembled in their junior cycle class groups and the results envelopes were handed out after the group were addressed by Mr. McCarthy. In his address Mr. McCarthy thanked the students for their dedication to their studies and their hard work in once again achieving such good results for GCC. He also thanked teachers and parents for the support offered to students.
GCC Student Council members attend Comhairle na n-Óg
Members of our Student Council, Eve Flynn and Rían Leahy braved the weather conditions on Wednesday and attended the AGM of Comhairle na nÓg. The students engaged in robust discussions on topics of interest to young people in Cork today, among which were gender equality, mental health supports and climate change to name but a few. They enjoyed musical entertainment from YMCA and were addressed by our Lord Mayor Kieran McCarthy, who encouraged the students to continue to make contributions to Council. He also commended their skills and talents when he met them personally. It was a great opportunity for students to have their voices heard on issues that affect them and a wonderful forum to help mobilise change in an ever changing, ever challenging world.

Please click on the following link to view a letter with information about the Laura Brennan HPV Vaccination Catch up Programme. The HSE is offering young people the chance to protect themselves from HPV, by receiving the HPV vaccine, if they were not already vaccinated. The HPV vaccine protects against the human papilloma virus which is linked to several types of cancers. Most students will require only one dose.
