Dear GCC Parents, Guardians & Students,
GCC Awarded the Pieta Amber Flag
Congratulations to all on our GCC Amber Flag team on the achievement of Amber Flag status once again for the school in 2024. The Pieta Amber Flag initiative recognises the efforts to create healthy, inclusive environments that support the mental well-being of school communities. We plan to raise the flag next Monday at 2pm with 1st Year Rang Cillian as a representative of the student body. Well done to Ms McInerney, Ms Moroney and all the team involved.
GCC raises the Green Flag
Members of our Green Schools committee were delighted to formally raise the Green Flag at our ceremony, yesterday Thursday 23 May. Congratulations to all the team of staff and students involved. We will continue to work together to promote all things Green Schools in GCC.
GCC Stationery Lists School Year 2024-2025
Parents are asked to note that we have asked Subject Department Coordinators to update stationery lists [for next
September] in consultation with their colleagues by next Wednesday 29 May. The updated stationery lists will be shared with parents via the school website on the last day of the school year next Friday 31 May. It is important for parents to note that the Free Book Scheme applies only to Junior Cycle year groups from 1st year to 3rd Year. Senior Cycle year groups will be expected to purchase items on the stationery list as in previous years.
Last year our GCC Parents Council requested that Subject Departments would be as specific and detailed as possible in their stationery list requirements and we have again asked that parents are made clear about the stationery requirements in advance of the beginning of the school year. This includes monetary contributions that parents may have to make towards subject field trips, materials etc.
Parents are asked to note that Past Exam Papers are part of the Free Book Scheme and will not be included on stationery lists. Parents should also note that not all items on the Subject Department stationery list are covered by the Free Book Scheme. For example, biros, colouring pencils and highlighters are not included. Once lists are returned, we will make it clear to parents which items are included as part of the Free Book Scheme and which items parents must buy themselves.
GCC Summer Programme 2024
The GCC Summer Programme will run for 2 weeks commencing on Monday 24 June until Friday 5 July. The Post-Primary School Scheme is open to pupils enrolled in special classes and pupils in the mainstream setting with complex needs.
The aims of the programme are to support students’ wellbeing through building their confidence and enhancing their sense of connection with their school and their peers. The primary aim of this theme is to help our children and young people to realise their potential, to be resilient in dealing with the normal stresses of their lives, to take care of their physical wellbeing and to have a sense of purpose, connection and belonging to their school community. Activities will be group based, fun and active to build social skills and develop confidence.

GCC Student Development Fund 2024/2025 School Year
A reminder to parents that at our GCC Parents Council meeting on Tuesday 19 March, it was agreed to maintain the annual parent contribution to our GCC Student Development Fund at €300 for the 2024/2025 school year. The alleviation of school fees for families of one or more children in the school will also continue. We would like to thank parents for your continued support of the Student Development Fund which allows us to maintain many of the supports we provide annually to our students. These include payments for:
- School Buses
- Junior & Leaving Certificate Pre-Examinations
- Transition Year Activities
- Student Insurance
- School Counselling
- Wellbeing Activities
- Health and Safety Work
- Awards Ceremonies
- Servicing of Equipment
- Staff CPD
- ICT Maintenance and Upgrades
- Building Repairs
- Contract Cleaning
- Print Management
- Upgrading of School Facilities
Once again this Summer we have work planned to develop a GCC Reflection Room/Library, painting of staff and student bathrooms across the entire school and upgrading of our B Block Art Room and PE Office area. This work would not be possible without the consistent support and contributions of parents to the school. As always we will continue to support parents and families that may have difficulty in paying this money. For the 24/25 school year, we will set up the payment facility on Way2Pay in May/June.
Email Communication with Teachers
At our GCC Parents Council Meeting in March, we asked that parents looking to contact teachers, would do so through the school office. We highlighted in particular scenarios where parents attempt to email teachers directly by assuming their email is their name followed by the @Corketb.ie domain.
Parents are asked to note that the @Corketb.ie domain is used across the entire Cork ETB (CETB) organisation which has thousands of employees and students. Given that there may be multiple staff and/or students with the same name across the CETB, it is imperative that staff are contacted through the school office to reduce the risk of sensitive information being shared with the wrong recipient. Please email the school office at glanmirecc@corketb.ie in the first instance and your email will be forwarded to the correct recipient by our office staff. We appreciate the support of parents in this matter.
