Dear Parents and Students,
GCC Leaving Certificate Results 2024
We would like to congratulate our 2024 Leaving Certificate students on their outstanding results in the State Examinations which they received last Friday 23 August. The consistent upward trend of our results in GCC over the last 5 to 10 years continues, with nearly one quarter of our Leaving Cert students achieving over 500 points. The positive year-on-year improvement on students achieving points in the 350-450 range has also continued with a gradual reduction in students attaining less than 200 points.
At the top end, results continue to be excellent with 6 students achieving in excess of 600 points including two students receiving 613 points and one student attaining the maximum 625 points. We also had 15 students who achieved distinction in the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. Our tracking and monitoring of student attainment indicates that 57% of our students performed above expectations in the State Exams with 82% of students overall, performing to or above expected levels. With a complete data profile of all our students developed since they started with us in GCC (based on STen scores, CAT Assessments, term assessments and SEC exams) we can say with certainty that the school is impacting positively on the learning outcomes for the vast majority of our learners.
Our results are testament to the commitment of our students to their studies, the unwavering support of parents and the high quality support and learning experiences GCC staff provide to learners. The results are also evidence that our students in GCC are catered for and challenged positively at their own individual level. We look forward to working in collaboration with parents and students this year and in the years ahead as we aim to build on this consistent delivery of excellent learning outcomes.
GCC Return to School August 2024
We were delighted to see all our students returning to school this week following the Summer holidays and we look forward to helping students settle in to the routine of school over the coming weeks. On Tuesday, we warmly welcomed a large group of eager and enthusiastic 1st Year students into our GCC community. Mr. Baldwin, their Year Head, addressed the group, emphasising the importance of doing their best, being kind, and working with both us and their peers. He acknowledged that “change can sometimes be strange,” but reassured our new first years that by embracing this new adventure, trying new things, seeking help when needed, and showing kindness to one another, they will thrive at GCC. The support of staff, parents and their classmates will give all students the best opportunity to be engaged and positive about their learning during the school year ahead.
GCC Parents Council
Parents are asked to note that our first GCC Parents Council meeting of the new school year will take place next Monday 2 September at 7.30pm. We are always grateful for the support our parents offer across so many areas of school life. Sincere thanks as always to parents who helped on a number of days over the Summer to ensure our books were ready for students in their lockers last Tuesday. Our thanks also to Ms Fitzgerald for coordinating the Book Rental scheme and Ciara in our school office for organising the stationery for students with the help of our dedicated SNA team.
O Crualaoi’s/GCC School Canteen
Parents and students are asked to note that our GCC junior [B Block] and senior [C Block] canteens reopened today and will renew normal service from Monday through Friday next week. Please click on the link to view O Crualaoi’s price list from September 2024. We will notify parents and students if there is any price increase during the school year. O Crualaois have been our GCC canteen service provider for over 5 years and we look forward to continuing working closely with Trisha, Clare and all the team for the year ahead.

Labelling of School Items
As per our update in June, parents are kindly requested to ensure that all uniform items (and especially the school jacket) are labelled with your child’s name. This will assist us in the prompt return of mislaid or lost items.
