Congratulations to Anna Shaughnessy, Rang Padraig who has been awarded the Silver Gaisce Award as she finishes Transition Year. Anna follows in the foot steps of current 6th Year student Brendan Collins (Rang Deirdre) who received the Silver Gaisce Award in 2019. Anna plans to start her Gold Gaisce Award shortly along with the Foroige Leadership for Life award. Anna got approved for a second Gaisce Award and also Chief Scout Award. She now will be receiving Bronze from Scouts and Silver from GCC. She is the first female scout in 46th 92nd Glanmire Scout Troop to achieve this.

“I began my journey with Gaisce through the Glanmire 96/42nd scout group, where I achieved my Bronze Gaisce/ chief scout award. Having completed this award In May 2020, I registered with Gaisce under the supervision of Ms Clare Sweetnam in GCC to do my Silver Award. Due to Covid, they changed their program to “Gaisce at Home”. Over the past year I completed many different tasks, which involved litter picking in the local area, baking and cooking for my family and elderly neighbours. I also did a walk/run every week and tracked it. When lock down lifted in the summer, I completed a 50km hike over 3 days and 2 nights in county Kerry. I really enjoyed this experience as it helped me to become more independent and it challenged me to the best of my abilities. I look forward to taking on the challenge of completing my Gold Gaisce award, which will be given to me hopefully by president Michael D Higgins”. (Anna O Shaughnessy)

The very best of luck with your Gold challenge Anna. From all at GCC.
