On Monday21st October, Glanmire Community College received its very first visit from Cork City’s Lord Mayor, Councillor John Sheean. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Lord mayor visiting schools within Cork City. This is the first visit of this kind to the school as we are now in the City area due to the recent expansion of the city boundary. The Lord Mayor presented Principal Ronan McCarthy with a picture frame commemorating two of Cork’s most famous Lord Mayors; Tomás MacCurtain and Terence McSwiney. The Lord Mayor addressed a large group of students and fielded questions from students on various aspects of his role as Lord Mayor. A role model for students and staff, The lord mayor enjoys running, having completed 4 Cork City marathons and has achieved a very high level of education based mostly in medicine with his main areas of interest in Cardiovascular Disease, Medical Education, Diabetes, Elderly Care and Determinates of Health – having published articles extensively on these subjects. It is a great honor to have hosted this special visit and to also be part of Cork City, a positively growing one
