Lord Mayor’s Visit
On Thursday The Belle Trio (Ciara Worley, Michael Lynch & Eve Flynn) welcomed the Lord Mayor of Cork Councillor Deirdre Forde to GCC with a wonderful rendition of Ode to Joy. First year student Mary Ellen Lynch together with her brother Michael entertained the students with an Irish favorite, Mo Ghile Mear. A mighty well done to our musicians.
French Exchange Itinerary

Cork ETB Arts in Education Strategy Launch
The launch of the Cork ETB Arts in Education Strategy was attended today (Friday) by Minister for Education Norma Foley TD in Nano Nagle Place. GCC students Jenny Lambe (3rd Year) and Michael O’Callaghan (4th Year) performed a wonderful duet at the ceremony.
TY Students Visit Ballynoe Nursing Home
Our TY students were invited to decorate the local nursing home this week bringing Christmas cheer to the residents.
Road Safety Authority (RSA) Workshop
Rang Siobhan, attended an RSA talk on Thursday facilitated by Frank Fitzgerald of Cork City Council. It’s both timely and important to foster good road safety attitudes and behaviors of both drivers and passengers.
The students watched RSA videos through the virtual headsets.
SVP Food Hampers
The annual food hamper appeal is underway. Drop off points are outside Mr Mc Grath, Ms. Cahill or Ms. Mc Inerney’s office. Thanks to the Meitheal Team for organising this year’s food hamper appeal.
4Ukrain(Ire)
A special word of thanks to students and staff who contributed to the Ukraine appeal. Former Senator John Gilroy accepted the clothes collection from school today (Friday) and would like to express his gratitude to all the students and staff who contributed.
Christmas Theme Day
All staff and students are invited to wear a Christmas jumper next Friday 9 December. Donations will be collected during tutorial on Friday morning. This year’s chosen charity is the Irish Guide Dogs. The Meitheal Team will call to classes during tutorial for the collection.
Sunrise Walk
The GCC Health team have organised a Sunrise Walk on Tuesday 13 December meeting outside the annex at 7.30am. This time of year can be dark and lonely for people and the walk will symbolise our community being ever present to support each other, as we watch the new day dawn.
The walk will conclude the morning walks that staff and students have participated in each Wednesday and Thursday morning. These morning walks will resume again in the new year. Thanks to the GCC health team and Alma for accompanying the students and staff in the mornings before school. As one student said: ‘It’s a great way to start the day, it gets me going.’
Christmas Bake Off
A reminder of our Home Economics Department Christmas cookery competition. You are invited to create a festive family of gingerbread people. There are separate Junior, Senior and Staff categories.
