Dear Parents,

We wish to inform you that we have engaged the support and services of Adam Peerbux as a first step in addressing the issues that have presented in our school over the past few days. Adam Peerbux is a former student of Glanmire Community College (2002-2008) and former Youth Worker in the community with Foróige’s Glanmire Youth Development Project. Adam continues to have a strong connection to the Glanmire Community as a resident and a community volunteer. He offers his personal and professional experience to support Glanmire Community College which includes over 10 years working with young people, families and communities both locally, nationally and internationally. Adam has an undergraduate degree in Social Care and continued his Postgraduate studies in the fields of Social Innovation, Mental Health & Self Care as well as studies in Global Competence, International Development and Mediation.

Apart from generic school-based related Youth Work, Adam had previously engaged GCC students on a specific programme “Challenging Stereotypes & Behaviours”, working with students of ethnic minority backgrounds to support and empower them in dealing with cultural adaptation and discrimination issues (2014 – 2017). Adam currently works with EIL Intercultural Learning (since 2016) as the Manager of their Global Citizenship Department that oversees the charity side of the organisation – engaging participants on a learning journey that supports individuals; personal development, interpersonal skills, cultural awareness and global consciousness.

We will be providing an externally facilitated forum for students to discuss their experiences in GCC. As a first step Adam will be available on Friday afternoon’s to meet with students from our school who may have experienced discrimination in whatever guise. We look forward to Adam engaging with our students as a first step in addressing the concerns our students have highlighted. We also envisage Adam having a support role with staff which we will develop once he has established himself with the student group.

Please see below contact details for Adam. Adam is happy for students to contact him directly to make arrangements to meet with him.
